EVERYONE DESERVES TO HAVE THEIR VOICE HEARD
About Project Kahaani
Project Kahaani (Hindi for Story) is a teen-founded and led initiative from Mumbai, India, started by Aaditya Sengupta Dhar.
Mumbai is not one city but two. One has more billionaires than any other city, except New York and London. The other has half the population living in slums. The youth in these slums want to be part of India’s growth story, and while they get textbook education, their background means they don’t have access to soft skills like English communication and expression to help their dreams come true.
According to a 2021 study by the India Skills Report, 54% of Indian candidates are seen as unemployable due to a lack of soft skills like communication, and a study by Lok Foundation and Oxford University shows the rich are 20x more likely to speak English than the poor. Project Kahaani was born out of a desire to bridge the gap between these two Mumbais, these two Indias. We want to make a difference in the SDGs of Reduced Inequalities and Decent Work and Economic Growth by equipping youth from low-income communities with written and verbal English communication skills that give them confidence and enable them to compete on a more level playing field.
Project Kahaani began in the slums of Powai in Mumbai and has expanded to to a team of six volunteers, working with 4 partner NGOs across 28 locations in 3 states, impacting over 4000 youth.
